Nina has been a school nurse for the Beaverton School District for the past 18 years. She was President of OSNA in 2000-2005. During that time, she served on a state wide task force, looking at improving nutrition in Oregon Schools. She testified before the Department of Education, Records Division, and had language changed regarding the definition and retention of school health records. Under her leadership, OSNA adopted it's first, and second, position statement on Safe and Appropriate Health Care Services for Oregon School Aged Children and Delegation. She also has amazing daughters that help her with everything. She was given the opportunity to testify before the Oregon State Board of Nursing, resulting in the adoption by the BON, a position statement which supports the registered nurse in the school setting. As a result of Nina's relationship with the BON, she was asked to serve on a task force which was charged with rewriting the Scope and Standards of Practices for Licenced Nurses, Division 45, which will soon be adopted. Through her leadership with various conference committees, OSNA was able to provide school nurses with the 6 CE units of pain management required by the BON. She also brought us the NASN training H.A.N.D.S. She continues to be committed to school nursing and to OSNA. It is our honor to award her School Nurse of the Year.
