Oregon Students Need Your Help Now!

It is time to contact legislators regarding the need for school nurses to support student health and safety, and reduce the risk for school districts. We need you to write letters or emails refelcting your current caseloads, student stories, and or needs of your schools for increased school nursing services. Please ask parents and school staff to also contact their legislators on the behalf of students health needs in the schools. For information on how to find YOUR legislator and examples of letters you can write, look under Nurses Corner and click on Legislation. The time is now for us to work together to improve school nurse to student ratios and better provide for students safety in our schools.

If you have questions, please contact Joan Bruce, Legislative Chairmen at joan.bruce@bend.k12.or.us.

House Bill 2693 Establishing School Nurse Ratios

On March 4th, several school nurses from around the state, parents, ONA representatives, and OSBN staffer presented testimonies to the House Education Committee. The presentations were received positively and, in fact, enthusiastically by members of the committee. Chairwoman REP. Gelser conveyed her support for this legislation and increasing the number of school nurses in the State of Oregon. Go to Legislation for copies of House Bill 2693 and more information.

Respectfully submitted
